Bathysphere

An installation of poetry, sculpture and fine craft by Santa Fe artist Andrew Davis, Bathysphere debuted at the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe as one of the contemporary "Laboratory" exhibitions, curated by MFA curator, Aline Brandauer.

A complex and finely meshed juxtaposition of words and objects (and words as objects), Davis has successfully provided the viewer with an environment of inquiry. Taken at its surface value, Bathysphere (definitiion: a strongly built steel diving sphere for deep-sea observation) tells the story of Jonah and the Whale amongst finely crafted furniture. Deeper into its essence, however, the exhibition places the visitor in the midst of question and searching, both for the story and its true meaning. Mr. Davis wants the visitor to his installation to see words as objects and their connections as personal investigation. This beautiful and meticulous display fuses art and literature, and invokes discussion from a multi-media audience.
